How do I book a tattoo?

The first step is to submit a tattoo enquiry through my booking form. I will use the information you provide, including your tattoo idea, placement, approximate size, reference images and any important details, to get a better understanding of your project. For larger or more custom pieces we may schedule a consultation to discuss the concept, composition, placement and overall vision before booking your session. You do not need to have everything figured out before reaching out. If you have an idea but are not sure how to bring it together, that is what the consultation process is for.

How much does a tattoo cost?

I keep my pricing simple and straightforward. All tattoos are booked as either a half day session for $600 or a full day session for $1,200. There are no hourly rates or complicated pricing formulas. The only thing we need to determine for larger projects is how many sessions your tattoo will require. During your consultation we will go over your concept, placement, size and overall composition, and at the end I will give you an estimate of how many sessions I expect the project to take. For example, an outer arm sleeve typically takes around 3 full day sessions, which would be approximately $3,600. The exact number of sessions can vary depending on the design and the amount of detail involved.

Do you create custom tattoo designs?

Yes. Custom work is a major part of what I do. Rather than simply placing individual images next to each other, I take your ideas, references, story and placement and turn them into one cohesive composition designed specifically for your body. You are welcome to send reference photos, artwork, examples of tattoos you like, or even just an idea you are having trouble putting into words. My job is to take those pieces and develop them into a tattoo that flows naturally with your body. If you are planning a larger project we will discuss the overall composition during your consultation, so the design works as a complete piece rather than a collection of individual elements.

How long will my tattoo take?

The amount of time required depends on the size, placement, detail, style and complexity of your tattoo. Rather than charging by the hour, tattoos are booked as half day or full day sessions. During your consultation we will determine how much time your project will realistically require. For larger projects I will give you an estimate of the number of sessions needed at the end of your consultation. For example, an outer arm sleeve will typically take around 3 full day sessions, while other projects may require more or fewer sessions depending on the design. The goal is to give you a realistic plan before we begin so you know what to expect.

What should I include when submitting a tattoo enquiry?

The more information you provide, the better I can understand your vision and determine the best way to approach your tattoo. Try to include your tattoo idea or the story behind it, the placement on your body, approximate size, whether you want color or black and grey or both, reference images, examples of my work you like, whether this is a new tattoo or a cover up, any existing tattoos the new piece needs to work around, and your preferred timeframe. You do not need to have the entire design figured out before submitting. Even if you only have a general idea, references, or a story you want your tattoo to represent, that is enough to start the conversation.

What is the consultation like?

It is free, 30 minutes, and in person in Long Beach. We talk through your idea, I take photos of the placement, and we start building the design together. You will leave knowing what the project involves and what it is going to cost.

Can we do the consultation over video instead?

Accepted Answer

In person is much better for a large piece, because I need to see the placement. If you are travelling from a long way out, send me a message and we will work something out.

Question 8

Do you do cover ups?

Accepted Answer

Yes, regularly. Send a clear, well lit photo of the existing tattoo with your enquiry and I will tell you honestly what is possible.

What styles do you tattoo?

Accepted Answer

Custom realism and surrealism, illustrative and neo traditional work, in opaque black and grey or bright color, plus cover ups. I do not do traditional flash, and I am not the right artist for small fine line pieces.

How far ahead are you booked?

Usually 2 to 3 weeks. Consultation slots tend to open up sooner than that.

Question 11

Can I bring a design I found online?

Accepted Answer

Bring it as a reference, absolutely. I will not copy another artist's tattoo, but I will use what you like about it to build something that is yours.

Do you tattoo anyone under 18?

No. California law is 18 and over, and I will need to see photo ID.
